If you’re using Chrome on your Android or iPhone, there’s a good chance you’ve seen an article or two about the new tab page. The new tab page is a great way to keep your browsing habits organized and focused, and it’s also a great way to access frequently used websites and tools. But if you’re not sure how to disable the articles on the new tab page on those devices, here’s how:

  1. Open Chrome on your Android or iPhone device.
  2. On the main screen, click on the three lines in the top left corner of the window. This will open a menu with several options.
  3. Scroll down until you see “New Tab Page.”
  4. Click on it to open it in a new window.
  5. In this window, you’ll see several options:
    a) Disable articles: This will disable all articles from appearing in the new tab page, including those that are already disabled by other means (like extensions). This is useful if you don’t want to see any articles at all when opening the page for the first time or if you want to change how often they appear. It can also be useful if you want to limit how often certain pages show up in your New Tab Page (like for work purposes). b) Show only recently opened tabs: If this option is checked, only recently opened tabs will be shown in the New Tab Page; other pages will still be visible as usual. c) Show all pages: If this option is unchecked, all pages will be shown in the New Tab Page; however, some pages may not be available because they’re blocked by Google (like videos). d) Disable cookies: If this option is checked, any cookies that are set by Chrome will not be displayed in the New Tab Page; however, other websites may still work correctly without cookies set! e) Disable history: This will disable any history

Google Chrome for Android, iPhone, and iPad shows “suggested articles” from the web on its New Tab page. You can hide those if you’d rather clean up your New Tab page and avoid the distractions.

If you’ve signed into Chrome with your Google account, Google uses your web and app activity to choose these suggested articles.

Android

On an Android device, you can’t really disable the article suggestions, but you can hide them so they’re not as distracting.

Tap the arrow to the right of “Articles for you” at the top of the list of articles on Chrome’s New Tab page.

This collapses the list of suggested articles, and you won’t see them anymore.

You can tap the arrow again to expand the list and view your suggested articles, if you like.

iPhone and iPad

On the iPhone and iPad, you can’t collapse suggested articles to hide them the way you can on Chrome, but you can disable them from appearing on your new tab page at all.

Tap the menu button at the top right corner of the Chrome app, and then tap the “Settings” option.

Under Advanced, toggle the “Articles Suggestions” slider off. This immediately disables the suggested articles on Chrome’s New Tab page.

This setting does not sync between your devices, so you’ll have to disable Article Suggestions separately on all the mobile devices you use.

If you don’t mind seeing suggested articles but sometimes see an article you just don’t want on your New Tab page, you can dismiss the suggested article. Just touch one of the articles and swipe to the left or right to remove it from your New Tab page.
