If you’re a Gmail user, you may have noticed that the Hangouts Chat and Meet features are not working properly. This is because Google has decided to disable them in order to improve the overall experience for users. If you’re using Gmail on your computer, there’s a way to disable Hangouts Chat and Meet in the sidebar of your inbox. To do this, open up your Gmail account and click on the three lines in the top left corner of your screen. Then, select “Settings.” On the next screen, select “Apps.” Under “Apps,” select “Gmail.” Then, under “Apps,” select “Hangouts Chat.” Finally, under “Apps,” select “Meet.” Now that Hangouts Chat and Meet are disabled, you won’t be able to use them to chat with other users online. However, you can still use them to meet up with other people offline. If you want to meet someone offline, you can either search for them in Google Maps or use a meeting app like Zoom.
Google is trying hard to push Google Meet by promoting it in Gmail. If you have no interest in starting video calls or chatting in Gmail, here’s how to disable Hangouts Chat and Google Meet in Gmail sidebar.
First, open the Gmail inbox where you want to disable Google Meet and Hangouts Chat. Click the “Settings” button in the top-right corner.
Now, select the “Settings” option to access Gmail’s settings.
In Gmail’s settings, click the “Chat And Meet” tab..
To disable the Hangouts Chat section, select “Chat Off” to the right of Chat.
To disable the Google Meet section, select “Hide The Meet Section In The Main Menu” to the right of “Meet.”
Click the “Save Changes” button when you’re done.
Gmail will reload, and you’ll see that both the Hangouts Chat and Google Meet sections have disappeared from the Gmail sidebar!
Google is slowly rolling out the feature to disable the Google Meet section. If you don’t see it right away, try again in a couple of days.
